KIM’S CONVENIENCE is the hilarious and deeply moving debut play written by Ins Choi. Set in a convenience store in modern day Toronto, it tells the story of a fractured but loving Korean family confronting their future by forgiving their past.

Ins began writing Kim’s Convenience as part of fu-GEN theatre company’s playwriting unit in 2006. With support from the Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, Diaspora Dialogues, fu-GEN and Grace Toronto Church, he finished it in 2010. At the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival, it won the New Play contest, the Patrons Pick award and was invited to be in the Best of the Fringe Uptown Festival. In 2012, it opened Soulpepper theatre company’s season in January and due to an overwhelming demand was remounted in May. Since the Fringe, it has sold out its entire performance runs. Upon being nominated for two Dora Awards, including Best New Play and receiving the Toronto Theatre Critics award for Best New Canadian Play, it was then published by House of Anansi Press. It is currently touring across Canada.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is nominated for Toronto’s Dora Award for Outstanding Actor and Ins Choi is nominated for Outstanding New Play. The Dora Awards ceremony takes place on June 25th. Run extended again til July 4th. www.soulpepper.ca for tickets.
